Filters give you precise control over what is displayed in the chart, helping you focus on specific user journeys. They allow you to narrow down flows by traffic source, device type, entry/exit nodes, or even specific URLs.
On the filter panel, you’ll find the following controls:
- Traffic source. Display only traffic coming from a selected source:
- AI - visits coming from AI-driven assistants or recommendation systems.
- Paid Campaigns - traffic generated by paid advertising campaigns (such as display ads or PPC).
- Search - visits from search engines when the link is opened in a standard web browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox).
- Search App - visits from dedicated search applications (e.g., Google app, Bing app) when the link is opened in the app’s built-in browser, not in a regular browser app
- Direct - traffic without a referrer. This may happen when users type the URL directly, use a bookmark, or when the browser or application does not send referrer information.
- Other Website - traffic referred from external websites that are not categorized as AI, search engines or social platforms.
- Social Media - visits from social networks when the link is opened in a regular browser.
- Social Media App - visits from social networks when the link is opened inside the app’s built-in browser (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
- Device. Display only traffic coming from a selected device type:
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Tablet
- SmartTV
- Console
- Wearable
- Embedded (screens or devices that are built into other systems or products)
- Self references. A toggle to include or exclude page reloads. By default, this is turned off, but enabling it will reveal how many times displayed pages were reloaded.
- Entry-exit. A toggle to show or hide entry and exit nodes. Entry nodes indicate how often users start their journey on a given page, while exit nodes show where their visit ends. This option is enabled by default, as hiding these nodes may simplify the view but removes important context.
- URL input. Focus on flows related to a specific page or group of pages. This field accepts both direct input and regular expressions. For example, to display flows for the homepage only, use the following expression: ^/$ You can also type in ENTRY or EXIT to display only the most popular entry or exit points. Please note that User Flow displays only relative URLs without parameters (such as ?returnUrl=, ?page=, or paid traffic tags like ?utm_source= or others).
- Limit. Adjust how many links (connections between nodes) are shown on the chart. The default value is 50, which is also the recommended maximum for the chart readability.
- Reset button. Restores all filters to their default state.
- Apply button. Applies the selected filters to the chart.
